Looking Back at 2025

In 2025 I sold books at two spring homeschool conventions--Missouri and Indiana. In the summer, I published the final book in my four-book series, and then two picture books. (See all my books!)

In the fall, I hit the craft fair circuit in the St. Louis area. Then just this past weekend I hit the road for a book signing at a bookstore. But it wasn't just any bookstore. It was the new Christian bookstore set up by my fellow Christian kidlit author Allen Brokken.

Allen and I are part of New Classics Study Guides, an author co-op that provides homeschoolers with free-download unit studies for specially chosen Christian "new classic" books. It has grown to 15 authors this year!

On Dec. 6, that is, St. Nicholas Day, I arrived at his bookstore in Bloomington, Illinois, bearing macarons and Brie, for a little St. Nicholas Day celebration. After all, my book The Dog Snatcher is partly set in historic France. Why not celebrate in the French way? Allen gave me a tour of his audiobook players and books for kids, and introduced me to the stuffed animals that match the books.

As customers trickled in, we discussed, what else, writing books! We finished off the visit with a little podcast interview in the studio at the rear of the store. It was a lovely day!

If you're near Bloomington, Illinois, be sure to check the hours and stop by. It's called Towers of Light Christian Bookstore.
