Get your tissues ready.

Hi there ,

Get your tissues ready.

This is Ryleigh's story, and it will change how you think about resilience.

Ryleigh arrived at her first rescue in January with severe open wounds covering her back. The most likely explanation? She'd been hit by a car or struck by another vehicle and dragged along the road, losing much of her fur and skin in the process.

She needed multiple surgeries just to close the wounds and minimize the risk of infection.

But that was just the beginning.

One morning, her caretakers discovered something devastating: Ryleigh had been pregnant during the accident. The trauma and stress caused her to miscarry her entire litter of stillborn puppies. A young dog who'd already endured so much had now lost everything.

Just when it seemed like she might finally be healing, a vet ran a heartworm test. Positive.

Before her heartworm treatment could begin, of course, Ryleigh came down with the flu.

Her immune system, weakened from months of trauma and recovery, couldn't fight it off. The flu quickly turned into pneumonia. For a long time, it seemed like her body had simply given up.

But Ryleigh didn't give up, and neither did the rescue workers.

She fought through the pneumonia. She gained her strength back. She became strong enough to endure the rigorous heartworm treatment. And through it all, something remarkable happened: her spirit didn't break.

Today, Ryleigh is finally ready.

She's completed her heartworm treatment series, been spayed and received all her vaccines. Her scars are healing. Her heart is open. And after everything she's been through, she's ready to find the family she's been waiting for.

Here's what we know about her now.

Ryleigh loves other dogs, big and small. She wants to be part of everything her humans are doing. She'll be your shadow, your constant companion, your loyal friend. She's working on introductions to cats and is very interested (we just recommend continuing slowly as she learns boundaries and grows more comfortable).

From her sending shelter: "She will make an amazing addition to any house and will fill your home with so much love if you are compassionate enough to look past her healing scars."

Ryleigh has been transferred to Arrow's Heart, and we believe the right family is out there for her. A family who understands that the most beautiful souls sometimes come with the deepest scars. A family who can see past what happened to her and recognize the incredible dog she is becoming.

Are you that family?

If your heart is saying yes, we'd love to hear from you. Reach out to Randi at [email protected] or reply to this email to start the conversation.

Ryleigh waited this long. She can wait a little longer for the right family. But we have a feeling it might be you.

With hope,

Arrow's Heart Animal Rescue 🐾
